Vowing to Help Protect and Grow the State’s Financial Resources and Investments, Today Republican David McRae Qualified to Run for State Treasurer of Mississippi.

February 13, 2019

At the Mississippi Republican Party headquarters in Jackson where he filed qualifying papers, McRae said, “Mississippi taxpayers deserve a Treasurer who’ll seek not just to maintain the state treasury, but help grow our resources through wise investments and proactive management.

“Like our President, I’m not a professional politician, but a businessman, constantly seeking ways to improve processes, find new investment opportunities and ensure our hard-earned dollars go further.”

McRae, of Ridgeland, is managing partner of Jackson’s McRae Investments.  David and his wife, Katie, have three children.

To coincide with the campaign announcement McRae released a video that is being advertised online targeted to likely Republican primary voters.

“In addition to growing Mississippi’s investments, I want to leverage the Treasurer’s office to provide even more accountability and oversight when it comes to our state’s bonds and economic incentive packages,” McRae continued. “As states must compete more and more for business and industrial projects using taxpayer-funded incentives, it’s incumbent upon elected officials, including the Treasurer, to help ensure these investments stand the test of time.”

As Treasurer, David will work to:

  • Improve investment returns of the college savings program
  • Ensure our debt payments are made on time to protect our credit rating
  • Safeguard taxpayer dollars by lowering interest costs on debt, working to shrink the size of government, and operate the Treasurer’s office more efficiently
  • Aggressively seek out Mississippians with unclaimed property to return those funds to our citizens
  • Find ways to save taxpayer dollars that will free up more funding for investments in public education and infrastructure

McRae is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) and the Mississippi College School of Law.  He is a leader in many civic and charitable organizations in our state.

Members of Christ United Methodist Church of Jackson, David and Katie have also helped guide the family’s foundation in funding a variety of faith-driven and community initiatives, including Habitat for Humanity of Jackson, the American Heart Association and Friends of Children’s Hospital.

“From a young age, I was taught the value of service to our community,” McRae concluded.  “I know my experience can make our taxpayer dollars provide better returns for the hardworking taxpayers of Mississippi.
